Preventing Drought by Purifying Stormwater Runoff
Preventing stormwater runoff from entering our water supply is one of the most important things that we can do to save our environment and ensure that everyone will have enough water to drink in the future. As a society, we may be facing water shortages in some areas in the coming decades. Areas like Arizona are the most likely to experience shortages. By adequately purifying stormwater runoff, we can make sure that everyone will have enough water. Stormwater runoff is heavily polluted water that runs along areas like parking lots and city streets before entering drainage systems. Substances like chemicals, gasoline, oils and litter contaminate this water as it travels along dirty surfaces like parking lots. To purify this water, we use stormwater filters. But many areas do not have the systems in place to adequately filter stormwater runoff. However, purifying stormwater runoff is essential to our water supply.
