How To Maintain Your Antique Saddles

Many horse owners who come from generations of riders and equestrians will have antique saddles passed down to them. These antique saddles are a memento from a bygone age where riding was the main means of transportation for long journeys. Taking care of the antique saddles is essential for allowing them to maintain their luster and grace and should be done every few years. Since most people will not use antiques for riding purposes, they should not have the common problem of wear and tear to deal with. Dry environments can cause a lot of problems for antique saddles, and should be counteracted by applying some oil to keep the leather from cracking over time. It is also wise to keep the saddles out of direct sunlight as they can bleach over time and lose their original color.
